Studying this teaching unit will enable students
to:
- Get to know the most fundamental properties of matter:
volume and mass, as well as their units of measure.
- Understand the concept of density and the units used to
express it.
- Relate gravity to the mass of bodies and get to know some
of the effects of gravitation.
- Get to know the smallest particles which constitute matter
and have some idea of their size.
- Get to know a new property of certain material
particles: the electric charge, and how they bind together to form
atoms and molecules.
- Understand the concept of substance.
- Understand the different states of aggregation and how
changes of state can be verified.
