Tidal energy is produced by the movement of large
masses of water caused by the rising and falling of the tides, as well
as by the waves which are created on the surface of the sea by the
action of the wind.
Advantages: It is a clean energy source, which has no waste products
and is virtually inexhaustible.
Disadvantages: It can only be installed in coastal regions, can be
affected by climatological disasters, depends on the amplitude of
the tides and needs large and expensive facilities. The following
picture shows a bird's eye view of the tidal energy plant
in Le Rance (France).
